Edinburgh’s New Town, Old Town and Georgian terraces hold some of the finest timber sash windows in the country, and TRC designs, manufactures and installs timber sash windows built to match that architectural heritage. From listed properties in central Edinburgh to period properties across the surrounding areas, our sash windows meet what an Edinburgh conservation officer expects to see.
Restoration or full replacement, our Scotland-based team scopes every project against the exact conservation area guidance the site sits under, so what gets drawn is what gets approved.
Heritage Sash Windows for Listed Buildings
Edinburgh’s listed properties call for sash windows that satisfy a conservation officer without giving up on performance. TRC’s heritage range of timber windows replicates original glazing bar proportions and horn details, built from high quality timber with double glazing and concealed draught-proofing behind the period profile. Every window reaches U-values as low as 1.4 W/m²K, so a listed building meets current energy efficiency expectations without losing the details that define its character.
Wind, driving rain and sharp temperature swings test every joint in a window, and Edinburgh’s exposed streets see more of all three than most. TRC’s heritage sash frames are rated to Class 4C wind resistance and Class 5A water tightness, standards set against the weather conditions a Scottish winter actually delivers, not a showroom estimate.
Traditional Timber Sash Windows
A traditional sash window relies on joinery, not shortcuts. TRC’s frames use traditional mortise and tenon joinery, glued and mechanically fixed, with sash cords running over cast pulleys the way Edinburgh’s original box sash windows were built. We manufacture from engineered pine, hardwood or Accoya, drawn from sustainable materials carrying FSC or PEFC certification, and pair that timber sash with modern materials behind the scenes: argon-filled double glazing and Low-E coatings. The result is quality sash windows built to the highest standard, whatever styles of properties your project covers, from a New Town flat to a farmhouse casement.
Every glazing bar, horn and moulding profile is drawn up and signed off against the original before a single frame goes into production. What a planning officer sees on the drawing is what gets installed on site, with no revisions once the joinery is under way.
TRC's Sash Window Service in Edinburgh
TRC works from an office in Edinburgh’s New Town, so a site visit or a conservation area query never waits on a trip. Our Scotland-based team manages the entire process, from survey and drawings through manufacture and fit, finished to a high standard. We have given new life to sash windows across the city’s tenements and townhouses, and we bring the same rigour to a single Old Town flat and a full commercial building.
Listed building consent and conservation area rules can shape a specification before a single window is measured. TRC Consult, our planning advisory service, covers Article 4 direction consent and conservation area guidance alongside NBS specifications and BIM objects for the design stage.
