Timber Sash Windows, Built to Last
The sliding sash window has defined Scotland’s streets since the 19th century, and TRC’s approach to traditional sash design starts with the original drawings, not a standard catalogue size. Every frame uses solid timber joinery, double glazing and concealed draught-proofing, so the sash slides as smoothly as the original was built to.
Original windows lose their fit over decades of Scottish weather, but a well-specified replacement need not lose the details that give a building its distinctive style. Our sash windows are built for energy efficiency, with U-values as low as 1.6 W/m²K and acoustic ratings up to 36dB, each engineered to a 60-year life expectancy.
Built for Scottish weather conditions
Wind, driving rain and sharp temperature swings test every joint in a window. TRC’s sash frames are rated to Class 4C wind resistance and Class 5A water tightness, standards checked against the weather conditions Scotland delivers most winters.
Timber Casement Windows for Period Properties
Not every heritage property in Scotland was built around a sash. Timber casement windows are just as common in older buildings, from farmhouses to tenement closes, and TRC replicates the original timber detailing while bringing in double glazing and modern seals behind it.
New windows need to match what a conservation officer expects to see on a listed elevation, down to the glazing bars and the ironmongery. Our casement windows reach U-values of 1.6–1.7 W/m²K and acoustic ratings up to 31dB, built from FSC or PEFC certified timber and finished off-site before they ever reach your programme.
Detail that satisfies conservation areas
Ovolo glazing bars, an espagnolette lock and a factory-applied microporous finish keep old windows looking the part while performing to a current building standard. Every detail is drawn and agreed before manufacture, so what a planning officer approves is what gets installed on site.

TRC Consult is our planning advisory service, built on decades of restoration and replacement experience across the UK. It covers Article 4 direction consent, conservation area guidance and the balance between heritage detailing and PAS 24 security, alongside NBS specifications and BIM objects for the design stage.
We also offer three levels of survey, from a full site visit with photography and schedules through to a desktop survey based on your own drawings, so you can bring us in at whatever stage the project has reached.
